FAQ
How do the blankets provide sun
protection?
Sunsnapz sun protective blankets are made from tightly woven,
weighted cotton/spandex designed to block out the sun's harmful rays.
Absolutely no chemicals are added to aid in the fabrics' sun protective
properties! Our fabrics surpass the maximum UPF rating of UPF 40-50+. This
means that our UPF fabrics block more than 97% of UVA and UVB even after two
years wear and tear.
How do
I know the blankets really provide protection from the sun?
Sunsnapz sun
protective blankets have been UV tested and rated according to U.S standards
(the world’s most rigid), which include 40 home launderings (wash and dry), 100
hours of continuous UV exposure, and testing throughout the entire UVB and UVA
range using precision electronic equipment. What that means is that SPF fabrics
effectively block at least 97% of UV during the equivalent of two years of
normal wear and tear. Our fabrics gets also tests every dye-lot of new
production to insure that the fabric is always correct and consistent.
What
does UPF 50+ mean?
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates
how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed. A fabric with a rating of 50
will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through. Thus, only 1-2% of
the sun’s rays can get through a fabric with a UPF 50 rating, while 98-99% are
blocked out effectively. Most standard cotton fabrics have a UPF of only 5-10.
Why is
sun protection so important for kids?
Just one blistering sunburn or five
non-blistering sunburns in childhood double the lifetime risk of developing
melanoma, a potentially fatal form of skin cancer. Additionally, three
different types of skin cancer have been linked to the amount of sun exposure a
person gets throughout their lifetime – this means from birth onward! Sun
protection should be a daily part of life from the moment a child enters the
world.
How
long does the sun protection in the blankets last?
At least 40 wash and dry
cycles (equivalent to two years of normal wear and tear). Please note that stretched
or wet fabric reduces sun protective characteristics.
How
should I launder the blankets?
Wash cold with like colors. Tumble dry on low.
Do not bleach. Do not iron.
Where
are the blankets made?
All of our blankets are proudly made in the USA.
